Carbon Fiber Filament (CF Composites)
Carbon fiber filament is a composite material made by blending standard thermoplastic base resins (such as PLA, PETG, ABS, or Nylon/PA) with short chopped carbon fiber micro-strands to boost tensile strength, bending stiffness, and thermal resistance.
Carbon-fiber blends cost noticeably more per kilogram than standard PLA or PETG, and abrasive fibers wear nozzles into your maintenance budget. On large parts material dominates the quote, so the higher gram rate amplifies fast.

The addition of carbon fiber particles reduces thermal shrinkage, virtually eliminates warping, and disguises layer lines beneath an attractive, ultra-matte textured surface finish with high dimensional fidelity.
Nozzle Abrasion & Hardened Steel Requirements
Chopped carbon fibers are extremely abrasive. Standard brass nozzles will wear out and enlarge within a few hundred grams of CF printing. Operators must upgrade to hardened steel, tungsten carbide, or diamond-tipped nozzles.
Pricing & Quoting Carbon Fiber Jobs
Because carbon fiber filaments cost 2x to 4x more than standard filaments and accelerate nozzle and gear wear, commercial print farms apply specialized material surcharges and hourly rates when quoting CF functional prototypes.
