Bambu Lab Enclosed CoreXY (Carbon Rods + Triple Z Screws)

Bambu Lab P1S & X1C Maintenance Schedule — Intervals, Rods & Filters

The 3D Printing Glossary">Bambu Lab P1S and X1-Carbon are enclosed high-speed CoreXY machines. Unlike bed slingers, they utilize carbon fiber X-axis rods with self-lubricating graphite bushings, requiring specialized maintenance techniques.

Key Maintenance Principles

  • CRITICAL: Carbon fiber X-axis rods must be cleaned with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) only. NEVER apply oil or grease!
  • Steel Y-axis linear rods require light machine oil every 30 days.
  • Triple 3D Printing Glossary">Z-axis lead screws require Lithium/PTFE grease every 90 days for synchronized bed lifting.
  • Activated carbon chamber air filter must be replaced every 3-6 months when printing 3D Printing Glossary">ABS/ASA.
1

X Carbon Fiber Rods IPA Wipe-Down

Recommended Interval: Every 30 Days
Required Tools & Supplies:
99% Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA)Dust-free Microfiber Cloth

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Power off the printer and allow toolhead to cool.
  2. Dampen a dust-free microfiber cloth with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol.
  3. Firmly wipe the upper and lower carbon fiber rods along their entire length from left to right.
  4. Slide the toolhead manually across the rods and repeat until the cloth comes away clean with no black graphite/dust residue.
  5. Allow to air dry for 2 minutes before powering on.
Important Caution:

NEVER apply oil, grease, or WD-40 to carbon rods. Oil ruins the self-lubricating graphite bushings and permanently damages the glide surface.

2

Y-Axis Steel Rods Lubrication

Recommended Interval: Every 30 Days
Required Tools & Supplies:
Lint-free clothSynthetic machine oil

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Wipe the dual steel Y-axis guide rods clean.
  2. Apply 2 drops of machine oil on each rod and move the gantry forward and backward.
Important Caution:

Do not allow oil to drip onto the carbon X-rods.

3

Triple Z Lead Screws Greasing

Recommended Interval: Every 90 Days
Required Tools & Supplies:
PTFE / Lithium GreaseCloth

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Wipe all three vertical 3D Printing Glossary">Z lead screws (front-left, front-right, rear) clean of old grease.
  2. Apply a fresh bead of grease along each screw.
  3. Lower and raise the heatbed across its full travel range using the touchscreen controls.
Important Caution:

Ensure the bottom belt connecting the three Z pulleys is clean of grease splatter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I never oil Bambu Lab X1C or P1S carbon rods?
The toolhead uses self-lubricating porous graphite bushings. Applying oil fills these pores, captures abrasive dust, and causes the carriage to bind and wear out permanently.
How often does the P1S or X1C need maintenance?
Carbon fiber X rods need an IPA wipe-down every 30 days, the steel Y rods a light machine oil every 30 days, the three 3D Printing Glossary">Z lead screws PTFE or lithium grease every 90 days, and the activated carbon filter every 3-6 months when printing ABS or ASA. Print farms should shorten rod intervals to every 15-20 days.
Which grease is safe for Bambu Lab Z-axis lead screws?
Use a lithium or PTFE grease such as Super Lube 21030 or the official 3D Printing Glossary">Bambu Lab grease. Thin oils run off vertical screws too quickly, while thick automotive greases overload the Z motors - a pea-sized amount per screw is enough.
