Input Shaping (Resonance Compensation)
Input shaping is an active open-loop control algorithm implemented in advanced 3D printer firmware (such as Klipper, RepRapFirmware, and Bambu OS) that calculates the natural resonant frequencies of the printer axes (using an onboard ADXL345 accelerometer) and modulates the motor stepping signals to cancel vibrations before they cause surface artifacts.
Input shaping removes ringing without slowing the printer, which is why high-speed farms rely on it to keep both quality and machine-hour costs down. Slower speeds to hide ringing cost real money.

Every physical mechanical structure has resonant frequencies. Input shaping applies time-delayed inverse step pulses to counteract the kinetic momentum of the printhead, cancelling resonant energy before it causes the nozzle to oscillate.
Accelerometer Calibration & Shaper Models
Using an attached digital accelerometer, the printer performs automated frequency sweep tests across the X and Y axes, recommending optimal mathematical filter algorithms such as MZV, EI, or 2HUMP_EI based on measured damping curves.
Unlocking Ultra-Fast Print Speeds
Input shaping allows desktop printers to run at accelerations of 10,000–20,000 mm/s² without visual ghosting, preserving crisp corners and pristine outer perimeters.
